United States Marine Corps

Overview

Serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, as a Network Administrator (MOS 0631) since October 2023 and as a Military Police Marine (MOS 5811) before that. Support communications and networking operations during training environments and multinational exercises.

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot tactical networks: Cisco routing and switching, VLANs, trunking, static routing, DHCP, DNS, NAT, ACLs, port security, and STP.
• Completed the Network Administrators Course in 2024, then tutored and assisted classroom instruction for other Marines in the course.
• Diagnosed faulty encryption device configurations issued by a higher-echelon support center, reconfigured the devices, and restored secure network connectivity in the field.
• Lead a three-Marine fire team, training Marines in network setup and field communications.
• Deployed multi-router field networks supporting roughly 30 users during large-scale exercises.

How It Applies

Serving as a Network Administrator (MOS 0631) gives me practical, operational experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco-based infrastructure in real field environments, not just lab conditions. The structured, procedure-driven nature of military networking work directly reinforces what I study at university and practice in my homelab.

Working in training environments alongside other units and across multinational exercises has also developed my ability to communicate clearly under pressure and maintain composure when connectivity problems need to be resolved quickly. These are skills that translate directly into network engineering and IT operations roles.
