I’m Nate. I study information technology and cybersecurity at the University of Cincinnati, serve as a Network Administrator in the Marine Corps Reserve, and spend most of my free time either running the infrastructure in my basement or somewhere on a trail. This page is the longer version of all that.

Tinkering & Learning
Outside of coursework, I spend time on my homelab, experimenting with new software, testing network configurations, and exploring technologies I don’t encounter in class. It’s as much a hobby as it is a learning tool.

I founded and run a civic transparency project on license plate reader use in Butler County, built on Cloudflare Pages, and I file the public records requests behind it. It started because I wanted to know what was actually deployed where I live, and the answer turned out to be harder to get than it should be.

Nature
Getting Outside
My interest in national parks took off during a Marine Corps assignment out west. Zion and the Grand Canyon were both in reach, and those trips set a standard that’s been hard to match since. Hiking earns you the views you can’t see from the parking lot. That’s the whole point.
Since then I’ve made it out to Yosemite, Death Valley, Sequoia, and Sedona. Fifteen national parks visited so far, with a lot more on the list. Most of my day-to-day hiking is around Ohio and the surrounding region, but I try to get somewhere bigger whenever I can.
